3 Days in Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay: Itinerary in Brief
- Day 1 – Hanoi city tour: airport pick-up, Temple of Literature, Al-Noor Mosque, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple and the Old Quarter.
- Day 2 – Hoa Lu and Tam Coc: temples of the 10th-century capital, halal lunch and a 2-hour rowing boat trip through three river caves.
- Day 3 – Halong Bay day trip: 4 hours on a private boat, Thien Cung Cave and Fighting Cock Islet, back in Hanoi in the evening.
Highlights
- Temple of Literature: founded in 1070, home of Vietnam’s first national university.
- Al-Noor Mosque: at 12 Hang Luoc Street in the Old Quarter – the only mosque in Hanoi and northern Vietnam.
- Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter: Turtle Tower, Ngoc Son Temple and Dong Xuan Market.
- Hoa Lu and Tam Coc: the temples of King Dinh and King Le, then a rowing boat along the Ngo Dong River between rice fields and limestone peaks.
- Halong Bay: a UNESCO World Heritage Site; you visit Thien Cung Cave and cruise past Fighting Cock Islet on your own boat.
Halal Food and Muslim Travel Notes
- Halal meals: lunches and dinners in Hanoi and Ninh Binh are at halal restaurants with certified halal food – see halal restaurants in Hanoi and halal restaurants in Ninh Binh.
- Halong Bay boat: day boats have no halal kitchen, so lunch on board is seafood or vegetarian with no meat. A halal lunch in Halong City can replace it on request (extra cost).
- Mosque: the tour visits Al-Noor Mosque on day 1.
- Dress code: cover shoulders and knees at temples and at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
Who This Tour Suits – and Who Should Choose Another
- Good for: a short first visit to northern Vietnam with halal meals and a private guide every day.
- Choose another tour if you want a night on the bay with halal food on board – take the Hanoi Muslim Tour 5 Days or add the Mon Chéri halal cruise – or if you prefer less driving, choose the Hanoi Muslim Tour 4 Days.
- Keep in mind: days 2 and 3 are full days with about 4–5 hours of driving each; the Halong Bay day ends around 19:30.
Is 3 Days Enough for Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay?
It is enough to see the main sights of all three, but it is a busy trip. With one more day you can sleep on a Halong Bay cruise instead of driving back the same day, or add Mua Cave and Trang An in Ninh Binh.
Customize Your 3-Day Tour
- Swap Tam Coc for Trang An or add the Mua Cave viewpoint.
- Replace the Halong Bay day trip with a night on the Mon Chéri halal cruise.
- Upgrade to a 4-star or 5-star hotel in Hanoi.
- Add a halal lunch in Halong City instead of seafood on board.

Local Expert Notes
By Jimmy, Hanoi Muslim Tours
- Choose a morning arrival flight so day 1 covers the full city tour.
- The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum opens in the morning only and is closed on Mondays and Fridays, and for restoration each year – in 2026 from 4 September to 2 November.
- Tam Coc’s rice fields turn golden in late May and early June.
- From June to September, storms can stop boats in Halong Bay; if that happens, we swap the order of days or offer Trang An instead.
