4 Days in Hanoi, Halong Bay and Ninh Binh: Itinerary in Brief

  • Day 1 – Hanoi city tour: airport pick-up, Temple of Literature, Al-Noor Mosque, Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter.
  • Day 2 – Halong Bay day cruise: 4 hours on a private boat, Thien Cung Cave and Fighting Cock Islet, back in Hanoi for a halal dinner.
  • Day 3 – Hoa Lu and Tam Coc: temples of the 10th-century capital, halal lunch and a 2-hour rowing boat trip through three river caves.
  • Day 4 – Departure: free time until your airport transfer.

Highlights

  • Temple of Literature: founded in 1070, Vietnam’s first national university.
  • Al-Noor Mosque: at 12 Hang Luoc Street – the only mosque in Hanoi and northern Vietnam.
  • Halong Bay: a UNESCO World Heritage Site; your own boat, Thien Cung Cave and Fighting Cock Islet.
  • Hoa Lu: temples of King Dinh and King Le in Vietnam’s 10th-century capital.
  • Tam Coc: a rowing boat along the Ngo Dong River through three caves, between rice fields and limestone peaks.

Halal Food and Muslim Travel Notes

  • Halal meals: lunches and dinners are at halal restaurants with certified halal food – see halal restaurants in Hanoi and halal restaurants in Ninh Binh.
  • Halong Bay boat: day boats have no halal kitchen, so lunch on board is seafood or vegetarian with no meat. A halal lunch in Halong City can replace it on request (extra cost).
  • Mosque: Al-Noor Mosque is the only mosque in Hanoi and northern Vietnam; the tour visits it on day 1.
  • Dress code: cover shoulders and knees at temples and at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

Who This Tour Suits – and Who Should Choose Another

  • Good for: families, older travelers and anyone who prefers to unpack once and return to the same Hanoi hotel every night.
  • Choose another tour if you want a night on the bay – take the Hanoi Muslim Tour 5 Days – or if you want halal meals on board, add the Mon Chéri halal cruise.
  • Keep in mind: the Halong Bay day includes about 5 hours of driving and ends around 19:30.

Is 4 Days Enough for Hanoi, Halong Bay and Ninh Binh?

Yes. Four days covers Hanoi’s main sights and full days in Halong Bay and Ninh Binh at a comfortable pace, and the last morning is free. If you can add one more day, a night on a Halong Bay cruise is more relaxing than a day trip.

Customize Your 4-Day Tour

  • Swap Tam Coc for Trang An or add the Mua Cave viewpoint.
  • Replace the Halong Bay day trip with a night on the halal-kitchen Mon Chéri cruise.
  • Upgrade to a 4-star or 5-star hotel in Hanoi.
  • Change the order of days to avoid Mondays and Fridays at the Mausoleum or a stormy day on the bay.

Local Expert Notes

By Jimmy, Hanoi Muslim Tours

  • Choose a morning arrival flight so day 1 covers the full city tour.
  • The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum opens in the morning only and is closed on Mondays and Fridays, and for restoration each year – in 2026 from 4 September to 2 November. When it is closed, we visit Ba Dinh Square and the One Pillar Pagoda instead.
  • Tam Coc’s rice fields turn golden in late May and early June, just before the harvest.
  • From June to September, storms can stop boats in Halong Bay at short notice; if that happens, we swap the order of days or offer Trang An instead.
