Tour Information & Itinerary

Hanoi – Sapa Muslim Tour 3 Days

Tour Overview

The Hanoi – Sapa Muslim tour 3 days takes you to the mountains of Lao Cai province for rice terraces, ethnic minority villages and Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina. Sapa is one of the easiest places in northern Vietnam for halal food: several Malaysian- and Muslim-run restaurants sit on Thac Bac Street. See our guide to halal restaurants in Sapa.

Highlights

  • Fansipan summit (3,143 m) by mountain train and cable car
  • Cat Cat village and waterfall
  • Muong Hoa Valley trek between Lao Chai and Ta Van
  • Halal meals every day in Sapa town

Halal Food in Sapa

There is no mosque in Sapa or Lao Cai province. The only mosque in northern Vietnam is Al-Noor Mosque in Hanoi. Village homestays and mountain-top cafés are not halal, so this tour stays in a hotel in Sapa town and eats at halal restaurants.

Good to Know

  • Best months: March–May and September–November; September is rice-harvest season.
  • December–February is cold, sometimes near 0°C; bring warm layers.
  • Combine with Halong Bay and Tam Coc for a full northern Vietnam trip.
Day by day itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi – Sapa – Cat Cat Village (Halal Lunch/Halal Dinner)

Morning pick-up in Hanoi for the drive of about 5–6 hours on the Noi Bai–Lao Cai expressway to Sapa, with a rest stop on the way. Halal lunch in Sapa town on Thac Bac Street, then check in to your hotel. In the afternoon walk down to Cat Cat, a Black H’mong village with a waterfall and terraced fields (about 3 km on paved paths and steps). Halal dinner and overnight in Sapa.

Day 2: Fansipan – Sapa Town (Breakfast/Halal Lunch/Halal Dinner)

Take the Muong Hoa mountain train from Sun Plaza to Hoang Lien station, then the Fansipan cable car, a ride of about 15 minutes over the valley. From the top station climb about 600 steps or take the funicular to the 3,143 m summit marker. Allow 4–6 hours for the visit and bring a warm jacket; the summit can be near freezing in winter. Food on the mountain is not halal, so we return to town for a late halal lunch. Afternoon free to visit Sapa Stone Church and the lake. Halal dinner and overnight in Sapa.

Day 3: Lao Chai – Ta Van Trek – Hanoi (Breakfast/Halal Lunch)

After breakfast, trek through the Muong Hoa Valley from Lao Chai (Black H’mong) to Ta Van (Giay) village, about 3–4 hours at an easy pace past rice terraces; a shorter route is available. Halal lunch, then drive back to Hanoi, arriving around 19:00–20:00. End of tour.
